That is the question! They say we need just 20% of the protein of our daily intake.
But what about people after 40? Studies have shown people after 40 need more amount of protein-based on their body weight. Of course, we need to remember each of us is different, each of us has different goals but generally speaking, before 40 (or so) we need around 0.8 g of protein per 1 lbs of the body weight and after 40 around 1-1.2 g of protein per 1 lbs.
Why is that?
Our muscles degrade each year around 1% after 40. It’s a natural process of aging. That is why we need to take more protein to build them back with a combination of exercise. The muscle waiting right after 40 (or around) is not so critical, just started, but it’s very good to catch it in this state to fight to age and prolong our lives. And don’t worry. More protein doesn’t hurt your kidneys. This is a myth. Do u have experience with muscle wasting and need for more protein after 40?
